Cheesemaking workshops for 1 or 2 person
CHEESEMAKING PART 1 – This is a practical relaxed hands on cheese making class. Somewhat different from the traditional cookery class. Louise Talbot from “Cutting the curd” will be leading the afternoon class in the theory of cheese making and is always happy to answer any questions you may have on the subject. Louise will be covering all aspects of soft cheese making and will guide you through some of the important practical steps to making cheese.
DETAILS – The class covers the following aspects of cheese making. Using raw farm or Supermarket milk, Vegetarian rennet and basic kitchen equipment. The class consists of a good mix of demonstration and hands-on. You’ll learn to make halloumi, mascarpone and mozzarella cheese and butter. You’ll also receive a folder of recipes and theory and learn about the science of turning milk into cheese. There will be a fun cheesy competition and quiz and at the end of the day you’ll take home a selection of the cheese/butter … and will leave with the ability to make a wide range of cheese! The class concludes with some delicious fried halloumi.
CHEESE MAKING PART 2 – On this one-day cheese making course you will learn how to make some delightful soft cheeses. Louise Talbot from “Cutting the curd” will be leading the afternoon class in the theory of cheese making and is always happy to answer any questions you may have on the subject. You’ll me creating the following cheeses :Camembert, Edam, Labneh (a creamy, tangy Middle Eastern cheese made from strained yogurt) and Feta.
DETAILS – You will go home with your own camembert, ready for it to develop the lovely furry rind at home. Your feta will be immersed in a salty brine, and also your Edam will be ready to mature at home. We will cover using ‘raw milk’ from a farm and supermarket milk along with vegetarian rennet.
This course is designed to give you all the techniques you need to make your own cheeses at home, and a clear understanding of the science associated with the cheese making process. We will provide an information pack covering the recipes and theory of the cheesemaking process. The day will be a mixture of demonstrations and hands-on work so that you go home confident to recreate the skills learnt at home.
CHEESEMAKING EQUIPMENT – Louise will have some cheese making kits (£30) available for purchase for those who’d like to get started at home straight away.
